The challenge
A school serving a defense community in India needed a proper website. Good school website design in India starts with parents' questions, and this school's parents had plenty: admission and withdrawal rules, fees, timings, uniform and syllabus.
The school also runs a full year of activities, celebrations and competitions, and it has facilities it is proud of. It wanted families to see that side of school life, not just the rules. Current families would use the same site to check holidays, timings and the year's planner.
Those two jobs pull in different directions. Rules and fees need to be easy to find and plain to read. Activities need photos, video and room to breathe. The site had to do both without burying either one.
What we built
We built a website organized around what parents look for: admissions, school information, activities, gallery and news.
About the school: history, key people, staff and holidays.
Admission process: general rules, admission and withdrawal rules, and promotion criteria.
School information: timings, admission policy, fee structure, uniform, syllabus and the annual school planner.
Activities and celebrations: classroom crafts, outings, festivals, national days, annual day and sports day.
Competitions and facilities: recitation, song, storytelling and fancy dress competitions, plus spaces such as the smart class and computer lab.
Gallery: photos, videos and the school's songs.
News, events and contact pages to round off the site.
The school supplied the text, logo and graphics. We arranged hosting and the domain, so the school had one contact for the whole setup.
How it works day to day
Picture a parent weighing up the school. They start at the admission pages: the general rules, what admission and withdrawal involve, and how promotion works. From there, the school information section covers the practical questions about timings, fees, uniform and syllabus.
With the rules clear, they move to the activity and competition pages to see what a year at the school looks like, then to the gallery for photos and videos. If a question is still open, the contact page is one click away.
For the school, the news and events pages give it a place to share what is coming up, and the annual planner sets out the year in one view.
The result
Parents find admission rules, fees, timings and the school planner in one place. The school shows its activities, competitions and facilities with photos, videos and its songs.
We are not publishing traffic figures or claims about call volumes for this site. What it makes possible is simpler: a parent can answer most first questions before picking up the phone.
What the research says
Parents are online at home. A 2025 national survey found that around 86.3% of Indian households have internet access within the household premises, and about 85.5% have at least one smartphone (PIB, Ministry of Statistics, May 2025).
Most visits come from phones. Statcounter, a web analytics company, put mobile at 77.3% of web traffic in India in September 2026, against 22.1% for desktop (Statcounter Global Stats). Admission rules, fees and timings have to read well on a small screen.
Images are the heavy part. The HTTP Archive's 2024 Web Almanac measured the median mobile home page at 2,311 KB, about 900 KB of it images (Web Almanac 2024). A school site with photo and video galleries needs its images sized for phones so pages still open quickly.
Where AI fits next
The site has none of these features yet. We could add a question box that answers parents only from the school's own published rules and fee pages. Staff could draft news posts from a few lines and photos, then edit before publishing, and gallery photos could be tagged by event automatically.
Planning school website design in India?
Four questions to settle before you start:
What do parents ask your office most often, and does each answer have one clear page?
Who will update fees, the planner and news, and how often?
Does your board require a disclosure page or a set format?
Who supplies photos and video, and what consent do you hold for showing students?
